Policies in Technology

Policies are legal measures that promote appropriate use of IT and can be developed by governments, businesses and individuals. Policies include the rules that controls access to information and rules that dictate the use of hardware, software and networks.


Protocols in Technology

Protocols in IT is the special set of rules that end points in a telecommunication connection use when they communicate. They follow specific protocols that specify interactions between communicating entities and protocols exist at several levels in a telecommunication connection. These are sets of rules or procedures for transmitting data between electronic devices in order for computers to exchange information, there must be a preexisting agreement as to how the information will be structured and how each side will send and receive it. https://www.britannica.com/technology/protocol-computer-science

Standards in Technology

Standards are metrics to which parties adhere to for the purpose of allowing common ground for interchange. For example, the alphabet is a standard for the exchange of information and another example is the standards used for measurements meter, liter and gram.

The ISO develop and publish International Standards and creates documents that provide requirements, specifications, guidelines or characteristics that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes and services are fit for their purpose.

Regarding policies, a good example are user agreements that users must complete before they uses certain software.
